Take a Hike!!!

Now that we've been getting some random days of decent weather, we've been trying to spend as much time outside as possible... This has resulted lately in some disc-golf and hikes in local parks! While we've been tiring them out, the kids have actually let me take some decent shots of them together too :)

Our snow-day afternoon

After naps a few Tuesdays ago (we were off for snow), we headed back out to the snow hill with Daddy too... He couldn't bear the thought of not getting to see/try out the snow tubes for himself :) Lucas was an absolute maniac... Very adventurous... going down forwards, backwards, on the belly, with eyes closed, etc. Lottie was feeling it much more than in the morning. She went down countless times from the very top... we even gave her a running start before we pushed her down... She just held on tight, squealed in delight all the way down, then got off at the bottom yelling "again!"...

Snow day so far...

Ah, snow... thanks for making a 4 day weekend for me! Today we woke up (way too early, at 5:35) to 3ish inches of snow... Tony had to go to work, so we snuggled on the sofa for a bit. Then, as almost every day, had some homemade toast...
Then we played cars for quite a while and I got some new pics in our 3 collage frames... Here's just one:
Then the kids - yes both - spent some time trying on my shoes...
Next, we returned some books at the library and headed to the local snow hill!!! After the last snow, we ordered some snow tubes that we were dying to try out...
He started out pretty tame...
Was going from the very top by the 3rd try... Soon going on the belly Superman style...
A few wipe-outs taken in good stride...
A few awesome action shots I took while we raced to the bottom!
Lottie did a few runs on the tube from about 1/3 of the way up the hill...
Then she went down twice on her bottom...
And was then content to sit and eat snow and watch us slide!
Lucas actually had to beg me to come home... he was tired and I was having way too much fun!
Came home to hot cocoa and are now back at play!!!
Can't wait for summer so I can stay home and play with my babies everyday!!!

Wrestle-mania

This is from a few weeks ago, but I love these pics! I was in the kitchen and heard all kinds of laughs and squeals in the living room... And this is what it was... Lottie would run back and forth on the sofa charging at Lucas... He would grab her in a bear hug and throw her down onto the sofa. She couldn't get enough! I think it qualified as their first wrestling match...

Bike update

Saturday:
This morning by 8 a.m. we were back outside with the no-training-wheels-bike. Lucas did a few coasts down the hill, a few short rides where he jumped off the bike after 10 feet... Then something just "clicked" for him! He was going longer and longer and actually correcting his balance before he would fall. After a few times of this, we decided to get out of the field, don the helmet, and head for the basketball courts...
At first, he didn't want to get on the bike at all... But after being told that he could have a BIG marshmallow in his hot cocoa when we got home if he could make it from end to end, he hopped right on. It was amazing! After about 5 tries, he made it all the way from one end of the court to the other end (longways!). He was super proud of himself! Another day or 2 as good as this, and we'll start working on braking and turning... By summer, he should be good to go mountain biking - or down our street at least ;P
He was so proud!
Sunday:
We headed right for the basketball course this time... no grass to start.
After 2-3 times across the court, we decided to see if we could get him to turn/brake. After about 3 minutes, he didn't need us at all. We held the bike up for him to get on and then he would ride all around for several minutes. Sometimes he chased us, other times we just watched in awe from the sidelines... Not too shabby for the 4th day, huh?!?
Better not go too fast though, or the cops will come and say "freeze"! Lottie's new fav game!
After nap, we headed back out with the bike. People were actually playing basketball at the courts, so we had to go to the other end of the neighborhood to the decrepit tennis courts...
Riding the bike was like old news now... He would just ride all over, in circles, out the gate, back in, around some more... like he'd been doing it for years. The highlight of this outing was that he could ride the bike really fast out the gate into the gravel parking lot, then slam on the brakes and create a dust cloud... Boys!
And in typical Lucas fashion... later Sunday night Tony was having a father-son talk with him... didn't it feel good to try something new that wasn't easy at first, but you kept trying and now you can do it... blah blah blah. To which Lucas nonchalantly replied - but Daddy, it wasn't even hard!
