So, the Friday after Lucas won his first trophy, we went back for real race #2. Tony was playing poker with the guys, so I braved going by myself with both kids. This meant I had to make sure Lucas was where he was supposed to be at the right times, take him to the top of the hill for his race starts, "coach" him, and keep an eye on little miss C. Turns out it wasn't so bad! I solo coached my way to another 2nd place finish... This time with 7 kids in his group instead of 4!
Round 1 - The top 3 of 7 automatically go to the final round. There was one SUPER fast kid there... nobody else stood a chance at #1. All the way around the track, Lucas was solid #3. The other 4 were way back. Then, on the last straightaway, about 30 feet from the finish line, Lucas' bike got all wobbly and he fell :( Ended up being #6. I was afraid he'd cry or be all nervous. When he got back on the bike and finished, with a big smile he said "Well, THAT wasn't how I wanted to finish that race!"
Round 2 - He did great and was #1 by a mile!
Round 3 - He did great again and came in 2nd... Only that mega-fast kid beat him! This time he picked a green/gold trophy, and was again very happy with himself. While waiting in line for the trophy, the #1 kid was in front of us. Lucas tapped him on the should and told him good job and that he's REALLY fast!
And the very next Friday, Mommom came too since Pop was out of town. This was her first time at the races! She couldn't believe how many people were there. Lucas had only 4 people in his group again this time. The girl that beat him out for #1 in the first race was back, but the fast kid from last week wasn't there. Tony did the coaching this time, so I got to stay on the bleachers.
Round 1 - All was going well... On the last straightaway, Lucas was #2, behind the girl. She did exactly what he did last week, and fell just before the finish line. So, he took #1. Which meant that he automatically went to the finals, and got to sit out round 2. He wasn't happy about having to miss getting to ride his bike and just being able to watch!
Round 3 - He got off to a great start. It looked like he'd be fighting the girl again for 1st place. A couple times, she got right next to him and he pulled ahead. About halfway around the track, she fell again (poor girl!). So, Lucas took first easily. BUT, it's important to mention that when she fell, he WAS ahead of her... So, it wasn't like her falling let him win :) So, he got a bigger trophy than the last 2 weeks... and it's purple for the Ravens!
